A short story in the local paper (from local TV station originally), basically saying that the couple met because she liked his 1965 Chevrolet Impala. And they won’t sell the car at any price. It is amusingly short, if cute.

What prompted the story? Their 50th anniversary, apparently. It doesn’t seem like they are being forced to sell the car for any reason, or even give it up due to health issues or something.

Just a couple who have a sentimental attachment to the car and held on to it, which I appreciate. It seemed funny to see the blurb in the newspaper, although it makes slightly more sense for the local TV station to have a (kind of random) human interest story like this.

That’s a sweet story - and yeah, what Smallbear said. A ‘65 Impala SS, with a big block and a manual trans? Hell yeah.

You know how these days people hate on Torque Thrust wheels because they’re so common? That was how I was with Cragar SSs back in the day, but now when I see them they make me smile.

My mother still says her ‘68 GTO is getting Cragars when it’s restored.

My parents got together because my Mom liked my Dad’s lime green Volvo 242. He bought it brand new in 78 when he turned 18 and received some money from a his father, who had passed away when my dad was little. Any way my mom loved his car and started asking who owned this Fancy bright green European car. My dad didn’t want to date, wasn’t looking for a girlfriend. However one of my date’s friends wants to go out with one of my Mom’s friends, so she had her friend tell my Dad’s friend “if Larry will come on a double date with Shell, I’ll go out with you. Thing is my dad’s friend didn’t tell it would be a double date, so basically my dad got tricked into going out on his first date with my mom, because she really wanted to get to know the guy with the pretty car.

Unfortunately a few months later my Dad wrecked the Volvo. He was race down a dirt road, against his future brother in law, who was driving a 260z. He took a corner too fast wrapped the car around a tree and walked away. As far as we k ow the car is still there.

That’s how they always looked when we were younger so that’s how they should look. When I bought my Camaro it had a set of CenterLine Auto Drags on it and the plan was always to some day get rid of them and get something nicer. Now they’re vintage and I’ve taken a liking to them so they might stay.

Her only gripe is that she wishes he was a little bit taller (and a baller).

So true - back in the ‘80's Cragar S/S’s were pretty cliche, but now they’re pretty cool, IMHO.
